On Monday June 18, join Horizons of Friendship at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church for a special Annual General Meeting and its tenth annual presentation of the Founders Award Medal.
This year's Annual General Meeting will feature two Indigenous Maya guest speakers - Veronica Mazariegos and Antonia Buch, with Horizons' local partner PIES (the Association for Health Promotion, Research and Education) of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health: Transforming Indigenous Lives project.
Following the Meeting, Horizons will present its Founders Award Medal to the 2018 recipients. Recognizing the exceptional volunteerism, leadership and commitment of individuals and organizations, the Horizons Founders Award celebrates the same kind of dedication as our founders - Father Tim Coughlan, and Christine and David Stewart.
This year's Canadian recipient is Judge James Clarke, a Guelph resident and judge of the Superior Court of Ontario who's long been involved with Covenant House of Toronto, Plan International Canada, Chalice, Michael House, the Food Bank, the Welcome Drop-in Centre and Horizons of Friendship.
Our Southern recipient this year is AFEDES (the Women's Association for the Development of Sacatepéquez), an organization comprised of Indigenous Kaqchikel women in Guatemala who works towards the full inclusion of Indigenous women in society, the realization of Indigenous women's economic goals, and the protection of Maya textile art.
A reception will follow the the presentation of the Founders Award.
