Project Summary
Our project partner DESMI continues to encourage indigenous families in Chiapas, Mexico as they gradually embrace an agroecological system that promotes healthy eating, wellness, and caring for Mother Earth. These processes are vital to the sustainability of these Indigenous communities, more important now than ever as the government of Mexico continues to prioritize the use of agrochemicals and monocropping, depleting the use of traditional practices and available nutrients in the soil.
This project continues to make positive improvements to marginalized, Indigenous farming families in Chiapas, Mexico (i.e., including women, men, children, and youth). Through your generosity, these families continue to increase their access to nutritious foods, promote economic independence, and are provided with the education needed to grow various medicinal crops that support health and well-being.
To date, 347 families are now engaged in food sovereignty work, surpassing the initial estimate of 269 families at the project’s onset. This could not have been achieved without your support.
