Kim McArthur-Jackson, Tina Hoekstra win 2022 Founders Award
This award is an opportunity to honour volunteers and community leaders who demonstrate similar dedication and spirit in volunteerism and leadership as our founders.
Kim has lived in the Northumberland area since 1990 and has had strong roots in activism since she was in her teens. In recent years, she has been co-chair of the Northumberland Coalition for Social Justice, an organization whose mission is to marshal local movements to work together in addressing issues such as poverty, equality, and human rights. She co-founded the Cobourg Queer Collective who (alongside the local PFLAG chapter) initiated, planned, and carried out the first and second annual Cobourg PRIDE events, in addition to a multitude of other happenings throughout the year.
Now, Kim lives in Campbellford. She is on the Board of the Trent Hills Pride, who organized the first annual Trent Hills Pride Festival in June of 2022.
Please join us in congratulating Kim McArthur-Jackson as one of our recipients for the 2022 Founders Award.
For over 30 years, Tina Hoekstra was an active and dedicated volunteer of the Horizons of Friendship Thrift and Treasure Shop. As a key volunteer, she was regarded as a pleasant woman, and kind to all customers and staff. If someone was having a tough time with the cash register or any other problem, Tina was always there to help. Tina arrived to Canada in the 1940s from Holland, and she arrived with little in the way of material goods. As a result of her circumstances, she understood the importance of giving to the less fortunate and always being available to give a helping hand. Tina committed over 30 years of volunteer support to Horizons of Friendship Thrift and Treasure Shop.
Please join us in congratulating Tina Hoekstra as one of our recipients for the 2022 Founders Award.
