Strengthening cultural training and awareness in the Communities of Lower Lempa, El Salvador

The project aims to strengthen the cultural identity and awareness of the communities of Lower Lempa, which are comprised of both internally displaced and refugees who were settled in this region after El Salvador’s civil war.  This history creates unique challenges in building a social fabric and a shared identity for the families, in particular the youth in this region.

Through this project ACUDESBAL will promote youth participation in cultural and community spaces, facilitate access to arts and culture activities, as well as preserve and recover the diverse historical memory and cultural traditions of the people of Lower Lempa.  The project will directly benefit 250 children and youth who will be engaged in 14 youth committees, as well as 11 musical, theatre, dance, and arts groups.  It will indirectly benefit a total of 1,800 families living in the 29 communities of Lower Lempa.
